Lead Equipment Technician – Carr Family McDonald’s
The Lead Equipment Technician is a senior-level technical role responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and longevity of critical restaurant equipment across all Carr Family McDonald’s locations. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership, guiding restaurant-level maintenance team members and supporting General Managers in driving operational excellence through well-maintained equipment. The Lead Equipment Technician has schedule flexibility, with the freedom to set their work hours so long as critical priorities, preventive maintenance, and repair needs are consistently met.
What you’ll do:
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventive maintenance on grills, fryers, beverage systems, refrigeration, HVAC, and other restaurant equipment.
- Diagnose complex technical issues and perform on-site repairs; manage external vendor support when specialized service is required.
- Maintain service logs and records of repairs, inspections, and parts replacements.
- Conduct performance checks to ensure equipment runs at peak efficiency.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as the subject matter expert for equipment-related issues across all restaurants.
- Mentor and train restaurant-level maintenance team members to strengthen their technical skills and confidence.
- Establish and enforce consistent standards, procedures, and best practices for equipment care.
Multi-Restaurant Support
- Travel between Carr Family McDonald’s locations to provide advanced technical support.
- Partner with General Managers to identify recurring issues, implement long-term solutions, and ensure operational readiness.
- Lead equipment projects including remodels, new installations, and upgrades.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all equipment meets McDonald’s brand, health, and safety standards.
- Follow lock-out/tag-out and safety protocols during all repairs.
- Recommend equipment and process improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Inventory & Vendor Oversight
- Oversee inventory of spare parts, tools, and technical supplies.
- Manage vendor relationships, schedule service work, and verify quality standards.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through proactive maintenance and strategic sourcing.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an equipment technician, maintenance specialist, or similar technical role (restaurant or food service experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service instructions.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor others.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between restaurant locations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical repair tasks.
